1. About 63 million Americans volunteer.
That’s around 25% of the adult population. Looking at the wider world, that number only goes up with a total of over 1 billion people volunteering across the globe.
2. One-third of the nonprofit workforce is volunteers.

Philanthropic-minded employers generally offer more than one opportunity for staff to get involved. If you know a company matches monetary donations, the chances are good that it’ll match volunteer time as well!

This perk is growing in popularity, and an additional 21% of companies have ambitions to implement a VTO policy as early as 2024.
17. 49% of individuals state their biggest obstacle to volunteering is work commitments.
An official government conducted survey in England found that 49% of individuals state work commitments are their biggest obstacle to volunteering. Conversely, reports also show that 30% of volunteers claim one of their reasons for volunteering is that they had the time to do so.
18. Companies with paid volunteer time off programs offer an average of 20 VTO hours per team member annually.
That equates to about 2.5 full days each year!
19. 67% of survey respondents say that having paid time off work to volunteer would make for a positive experience.
When a group of nonprofit supporters was asked what would provide an optimal volunteer experience, more than 2 in 3 responded with a desire for paid time off work. Meanwhile, 62% of respondents indicated that the ability to volunteer during business hours would be the top factor for a positive experience.

22. The average corporate volunteer rate participation rate is 33%.
Recent studies show that the average corporation sees an estimated 1 in 3 employees getting involved. However, the employee participation rate at top-quartile volunteer programs has doubled, landing at 66%.
At the same time, companies with fewer than 10,000 employees saw a higher-than-average participation rate of 39%. Meanwhile, companies with more than 50,000 employees had a decreased participation rate of 24%.
