An American-based company, Coinstar has thousands of locations located in stores across the United States, UK, Ireland, Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, and Mexico. It employs 1,800 people, and is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.
Coinstar has various ways of supporting the organizations its employees are passionate about. Through its volunteer grant program, Coinstar provides generous grants worth $15 for every hour volunteered by an employee. There are four volunteer grant tiers an individual can reach:
Even better? Coinstar also offers a matching gift program through which the company matches employee donations up to $2,000 annually.
Highlight: By requiring a minimum of only 10 volunteer hours in a calendar year, Coinstar aims to maintain an accessible program in which employees can easily participate.
Verizon is an American telecommunications conglomerate that is famous for its wireless communications and mass media subsidiaries, as well as its “Can you hear me now?” marketing campaign. It is headquartered in New York City and employs 155,000 people nationwide.
Through Verizon’s Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP), the company provides volunteer grants to organizations where employees volunteer on a regular basis. After employees volunteer for 50 hours in a year, the company provides a $750 grant to the organization. (That comes out to $15 an hour.)
The company also matches employee donations, offering up to $5,000 in matches to schools and $1,000 to all other 501(c)(3) organizations.
Highlight: Each employee can request up to two volunteer grant awards of $750 in a single calendar year. However, an organization may receive only one volunteer grant on behalf of any one employee in a given year.
ConocoPhillips is a Fortune 500 energy corporation, located in Houston, Texas. The company, which was born in 2002 out of the merger between Conoco Inc. and Phillips Petroleum Co., currently employs more than 16,000 people.
And, fortunately, ConocoPhillips’ employee giving programs offer powerful ways for its staff to give back! The company matches donations up to $10,000 annually to nearly every nonprofit. ConocoPhillips also provides volunteer grants worth $25 per hour volunteered. There are two thresholds:
Highlight: When teams of four or more ConocoPhillips employees volunteer for a combined total of 40 hours, the company will provide a team volunteer grant of $1,000.
Microsoft is a multinational technology company headquartered in Washington. It was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates, and now employs over 221,000 people worldwide. The company is best known for its personal computers, office software, and video gaming platforms.
In 2005, Microsoft instituted a Dollars for Doers program through which the company provides $25 for every hour a Microsoft employee volunteers with a charitable cause. Today, nearly 5,000 employees participate in the company’s volunteer grant program for a collective total of more than 430,000 annual volunteer hours.
Highlight: Microsoft is one of the world’s largest corporate donors, and it sees one of the highest employee giving participation rates. To date, Microsoft has donated more than $1 billion through various giving programs, including matching employee donations of up to $15,000 per year.
Based in Round Rock, Texas, Dell is a multinational computer technology company. It is particularly known for its “build-to-order” or “configure-to-order” approach, wherein it delivers individual PCs configured to customer specifications. It was founded in 1984 and now employs over 120,000 people around the world.
Dell’s volunteer grant program engages its staff by offering $150 donations for every ten hours an employee volunteers with a nonprofit. Not to mention, the company matches employee donations up to $10,000 annually, too!
Highlight: Each employee can request one volunteer grant each quarter, for a total value of $600 per year.
Founded in 1994, RealNetworks is a provider of Internet streaming services and media delivery software based out of Washington State.
As a way of giving back through a variety of employee giving programs, the RealNetworks Foundation provides grants worth $25 for every hour an employee volunteers. Each team member qualifies for up to 100 volunteer hours each year, and the company matches employee donations up to $10,000 annually.
Highlight: In addition to its volunteer grant and matching gift programs, RealNetworks offers a unique employee giving incentive. When a team member reaches their five-year anniversary with the company, RealNetworks provides a $500 grant to an organization of the employee’s choosing.
The Walt Disney Corporation is a top mass media company that employs more than 225,000 individuals worldwide. Not to mention, it encapsulates subsidiaries such as Hulu, Marvel Entertainment, American Broadcasting Company, and more.
In order to extend the impact of the happiest place on earth, the Walt Disney company offers a generous volunteer grant program, known as Disney VoluntEARS. This philanthropic program enables employees to request grants for their favorite nonprofits based on the number of hours volunteered with the organization during a calendar year.
Disney’s VoluntEAR grant program is organized according to the following tiers:
Highlight: In addition to the basic volunteer grants available, Disney also provides “VoluntEARS of the Year” grants, typically in amounts of $2,500. Plus, the company matches current employee donations of up to $25,000 to most nonprofit organizations.
Allstate is one of the largest American insurance companies, and it currently employs over 54,000 people. The company is best known for its creative and humorous “Are you in good hands?” and “Mayhem” marketing campaigns.
The Allstate Foundation awards “Helping Hands” grants to nonprofits where employees and agency owners volunteer on a regular basis. After individuals volunteer for a minimum of 16 hours in a calendar year, they become eligible to request grants of $500 on behalf of their favorite organizations.
Highlight: Allstate agency owners are eligible to request up to $1,000 in volunteer grants each year. This goes above and beyond the standard $500 grants that other employees can request!
Bank of America is a leading multinational financial institution that provides a wide range of banking, investing, and other financial services. Committed to creating meaningful change in communities, Bank of America emphasizes corporate social responsibility through various philanthropic initiatives, including volunteer grants.
With more than 210,000 employees worldwide, Bank of America encourages its staff to give back of their time on a regular basis. Employees (and retirees!) can qualify for two tiers of grants:

Highlight: With no minimum number of hours required to start earning grants, this generous program empowers employees to immediately support the nonprofits they are passionate about. It’s a great way to reflect Apple’s commitment to community engagement and volunteerism!
Chevron Corporation is a multinational energy company committed to social responsibility and sustainable development. This includes, but is not limited to, generous community engagement and employee-led volunteer initiatives.
Employing approximately 48,000 people worldwide, Chevron encourages its staff to support community development and other charitable causes. Its Humankind Volunteer Grant Program offers $500 grants to nonprofits for every 20 hours an employee volunteers.
Highlight: Each Chevron employee can earn up to two grants per year. That means team members qualify for a potential of $1,000 in donations per employee on an annual basis.
Leading healthcare company CVS Health is a major U.S.-based pharmaceutical chain dedicated to improving community health and well-being. One way that it does so is by offering volunteer grants for the organizations with which its employees dedicate their time.
CVS Health’s standout volunteer grant program provides $500 grants to nonprofits for every 25 hours of time donated by an employee. The program illustrates its commitment to enhancing community health through active employee participation and support.
Highlight: CVS Health focuses its volunteer grant program on organizations with missions in the following areas: children (including education), healthcare, at-risk or needy populations, the environment, or community strengthening. However, the company notes that most nonprofits can loosely fall into one of the above categories, making them eligible to receive volunteer grants.
The largest descendent of John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company, ExxonMobil is an American multinational oil company based in Texas. It was founded in 1999 and currently employs over 61,000 people.
In order to engage its staff and incentivize philanthropic involvement, ExxonMobil offers a generous volunteer grant program as a key tenet of its workplace giving strategy. For every 20 hours an employee volunteers, the company will provide a $500 grant to the nonprofit. That equates to $25 per hour volunteered!
Highlight: Each employee is eligible to request up to four (4) $500 volunteer grants each year, for an annual cap of $2,000.
Aetna is a Fortune 500 health care company, providing traditional and consumer directed health care insurance plans and related services. It employs nearly 50,000 people around the United States.
By requiring employees to volunteer for only 15 hours in a year in order to unlock generous volunteer grant funding, Aetna employees can easily reach the minimum hours needed to monetize their volunteerism on behalf of their favorite causes.
Highlight: Volunteer grants are offered according to a few tiers. Employees volunteering between 15 and 25 hours in a year are eligible for $500 grants.
