BHP Matching Gift Program and Volunteer Grant Information

BHP matches employee donations to eligible non-profits at a 2:1 rate (effectively tripling donations). Eligible recipient organizations include*:

• Education and Training Institutions
• Health and Human Welfare Service Organizations
• Organizations involved in Arts and Culture
• Civic, Community Service and Welfare Organizations
• Junior Sport
• Environmental and Conservation Organizations
• Emergency services/disaster relief

* All final decisions on the eligibility of non-profit organizations to receive funding through the Matched Giving Program are at the discretion of BHP.

Please note: BHP matches donations from employees and board members. Gifts from spouses are not eligible.

BHP offers two types of matching gifts:

1. Personal cash donations to non-profit organizations. Regular or one-off donations are included.
2. Payroll donations at Assets where it is available. Payroll giving donations are payments taken from salary with employee permission, and paid to a nominated non-profit organization. These payments can be matched through the MGP.

Max Donation:
There is a maximum cap of USD$100,000 in matched (company) contributions for each employee in each financial year (1 July to 30 June). This may be a mix of matching financial donations and volunteer grant matches.

An employee may choose to make a direct cash donation of US$50,000 which will be matched at 2:1 and $100,000 paid to the organization, reaching their annual limit of US$100,000 in matched (company) contributions.

Submission Process:
Employees / donors should register their matching gift requests electronically at {{forms}}.

BHP previously provided volunteer grants to nonprofits where employees volunteered on a regular basis.

For every hour an employee volunteered, BHP donated USD$16 to the nonprofit. The amount matched was paid in local currency, and varied per country. Each employee could request grants for up to 40 volunteer hours per month.

Hours could be entered in bulk rather than at the time of volunteering but employees were asked to submit the requests before the end of the company's fiscal year ends on June 30th.
