Support The Boys' Club of New York through a custom matching gift program

Read below to learn more about custom matching gift programs, and how your company can get started in two easy steps!

Step 1: Review the Basics.

What is a Custom (or “One-Off”) Matching Gift Program?

Custom matching gift programs are a great source of support for nonprofit organizations! In contrast to evergreen matching gift programs, custom matching gift programs are born out of a direct relationship between a company and a nonprofit close to their heart and mission. They are often managed directly by a coordinator or dedicated team at the nonprofit organization, are limited to a specific time of year, and have slightly different participation requirements for employees.

How do Custom Matching Gift Programs Operate?

Custom matching gift programs often have their own dedicated matching gift process, separate from evergreen matching gift programs. Some parameters companies set for these processes can include:

Where employees should give to be eligible, like a dedicated online form
Donation match parameters, like minimums, maximum, and match ratios
Employee eligibility parameters, like eligibility for part-time or retired employees
And more.

Custom matching gift programs usually have more generous guidelines than evergreen matching gift programs because of their limited time frames.

"I‘m not my company’s HR director. How can I get a custom matching gift program started?"

Maybe you aren’t in a position to start a custom matching gift program yourself. Don’t worry — there are things anyone at any company can do to advocate for starting a matching gift program today. This guide walks you through the best steps to get your organization on board. Good luck!

"I‘m interested in creating a custom program, but I don’t even know where to start. Can I still submit this form?"

Yes! Not everyone is an expert in matching gift programs, so we don’t expect you to have every detail already decided before you reach out. At Double the Donation, we have lots of templates and recommendations available to help you put together a program you and the organization you support are both excited about. So go ahead and submit the information in the interest form, and we’ll provide the materials you need to create the matching gift program from there.

"Wait, what if we want to create a matching gift program that can benefit any organization?"

How generous! If you wish to create a broader matching gift program to match employee donations to any qualifying organization, that information should be entered in the main Double the Donation database. Use the resource linked below instead of launching a program for just one organization with the form on this page.
